Red Mesa

A friend and I had dinner here for the first time tonight. When we arrived, there were a few families already leaving. We only waited about a minute or so to be seated. The staff was really nice and friendly. There was a nice drink menu as well as daily specials. They had a good menu and was also willing to make substitutions. The drinks were amazing. The food was really good. Serving size was great. And the taste was exceptional. This will not be our last time. I can't wait to go back to try the enchiladas. My friend ordered.

It's alright. Worth going out of your way for? Probably not. Worth fighting downtown traffic and finding parking over? Not for me, at least. The service wasn't very good. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were just not into it. They were out of something they need for their "signature" mezcal drink so couldn't try that. Don't waste your money on the salsa - chips were stale and the salsa is a puree, almost like soup. Entrees were decent. Breakfast burrito had great presentation. The barbacoa bowl, for $22, needed more to justify the price. It's meat and onions and rice. I'd flesh it out with bell peppers, jalapeno, more than one little sprig of cilantro, and some beans to accompany the rice I would say. I think there's just better options downtown.

Red Mesa never misses. The sangria was so good — dangerously easy to sip — and our combos were absolute perfection. But the real standout was our waiter. Total hunk, total pro, and genuinely fantastic service from start to finish. Great food, great drinks, great vibes. Yum. I’ll be back.

We went to Red Mesa tonight for dinner and had an excellent meal. We had the Dip Trio, guacamole, white queso, and pico with chips, for our appetizer. The guacamole is probably the best I've ever had. Most places don't have enough lime in their guac. Theirs is perfect. For our entrees we had the filet mignon skewers with chipotle cream sauce and mofongo, and the brisket Del Rey burrito. The filet with cream sauce was tender and flavorful. The mofongo was a special treat in that it was made with sweet plantains instead of green plantains. We've not had mofongo made this way before, and it was excellent. Although the Del Rey burrito doesn't sound like a particularly special choice, it was excellent. The brisket was tender and flavorful, and the complement of sauces and peppers and other ingredients was perfect. We didn't have room for dessert, so that will have to be an experience for next time.

Such a good meal and amazing service too! All the food tasted so fresh and flavorful. We were on vacation and I’m sad I can’t come here regularly! Definitely check it out whether you’re local or just visiting like us.
